Cat and mouse

Isn’t it funny how cats always want to do the things they know they’re not allowed to do?

I understand the lure of computer mice for Mushu: they move, he knows he’s not supposed to push them off the table (just look at that mischievous expression on his face!) and it’s a sure-fire way to get the attention of the person who’s looking at the laptop screen instead of what he’s sure they should be doing: playing with him! 😀

Exploring the balcony

We’ve been having some late summer warm weather, and Mushu has been spending his days outside on our cat-proofed balcony.

It’s surrounded with netting so that he can’t jump off and hurt himself, and he loves to doze in the sun, chase the odd lost insect that wanders by, and watch all the neighbours and generally do what Siamese cats do best: inspect everything.

I’m sure he wishes that summer was longer (I know I do!), but I know that it’ll soon be too cold for him to want to demand that I open the door for him to go out in the mornings. I hope he’ll enjoy it while he can.

Oh, feathers!

Cats love feathers, and for indoor-only cats it’s even more important to keep them stimulated with outside objects and smells than indoor-outdoor cats. This is Moosh’s reaction today to a duck feather I brought in for him from a walk by a pond, to cover both of these bases. He seems quite happy with the concept, doesn’t he?

New game – fetch!

Here it is, now throw!

Moosh has taken to retrieving like a dog (not uncommon in Siamese and Oriental cats, who are often called more dog-like than other cats), and it is fast becoming his favourite game. I’m constantly getting toys dropped on my lap or keyboard and being subtly pawed to remind me to keep throwing! I have yet to tire him out before I’ve had enough. Good thing I’m working from home: keeping a Siamese kitten entertained is a full time job!

Mushu still likes to fetch his favourite football, but retrieving paper and sponge balls is quicker because they’re lighter and easier to carry and they bounce around less predictably, so they’re very popular with him too. Here’s his latest offering (or is it demand?)

Do you know a cat who plays fetch?

Hanging out

It’s been a little while and Mushu has been concentrating on important kitten things: eating, sleeping, growing, playing, racing around, fetching toys, talking, investigating and just generally hanging out.

It seems like a really stress-free life, with attention on demand and someone else to take care of your every need. Sometimes I really wish I was a cat!

It’s a very serious business, this shoelace attacking thing

Seems that they need plenty of concentration and lots of claws and teeth to subdue them!

Sleepy kitty

Just look at how darling those little toes are, and how sweet that sleepy kitten is! Is it just me, or is that not the cutest kitten around?
